Made to measure (M2M) suits are constructed from a block pattern that is modified based on your body measurements. The fit is far superior to off-the-rack and bespoke suits, embracing every curve of your physique.
With the advent of e-commerce, you can now get M2M suits online with some of the bigger players in the space. However, there are a few important things to keep in mind when shopping for these types of suits.
The biggest brands in the space are able to offer a full suite of resources to help you take your measurements, either via their app or by purchasing a Tailoring Kit from Indochino. These kits include tape measures and swatches for you to try on at home, and the $29 cost of the kit is redeemable towards your suit when you’re ready to buy.
Once you have your measurements, the brand’s online platform allows you to build your suit down to the last detail – everything from the interior lining to the length of your lapels and whether it’s single-breasted or double-breasted. Some of the better M2M options also allow you to customise elements such as slanted jacket pockets and functional sleeve buttons.
You’ll generally be offered a number of fabric options, some from their own in-house collection and others curated from mills across Britain and Italy. In terms of construction, there are typically three to choose from – soft shoulders, regular or slanted. Once your suit is finished, you’ll be invited to a final fitting where any necessary alternations can be made. Made to measure suits
